The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Central Community High School was held on April 16, 2007 at 7:30 P.M. in the boardroom.
Members present were Mike Strieker, Rick Taphorn, Dave Wellen, Mary Lou Voss, and Don Rakers President presided. Visitors included: Lisa Wuest, Chris Greenberg, Becky Beoschen, and Bill Rathmann. Tina Winkeler arrived at 7:35 and Mike Nettemeier arrived at 7:38.
The agenda and was approved on a motion by Dave Wellen, second by Rick Taphorn. Roll call vote: Aye – Mike Strieker, Rick Taphorn, Dave Wellen, and Mary Loss Voss. Nay – None
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved on a motion by Mary Lou Voss, second by Mike Strieker. Roll call vote: Aye – Mike Strieker, Rick Taphorn, Dave Wellen, Tina Winkeler, and Mary Lou Voss. Nay – None.
The financial report was reviewed and accepted on a motion by Mary Lou Voss, second by Dave Wellen. Roll call vote: Aye – Mike Strieker, Rick Taphorn, Dave Wellen, Tina Winkeler, and Mary Lou Voss. Nay – None.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT:
Mr. Meyer introduced Becky Boeschen, the new Business Manager, to the Board.
The 9th Annual Clinton County Academic Excellence Banquet will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 2nd at the Albers American Legion. Central has sixteen students and their parents who will be recognized at the event.
The 1st Annual Academic Achievement Awards program will be held here at Central on Thursday, May 10th at 7:00 pm. This will be a chance to celebrate achievements by our students. Presentations of scholarships, academic performance, attendance, and other special recognitions will be presented.
The 2006 Estimated Assessed Valuation increased over $3,000,000.00.
A Special Board of Education meeting is set for Thursday, May 3rd at 7:00 pm. There will be two separate meetings. The first will be with the existing Board of Education to canvass ballots and make official the results of the election. The second meeting will be with new members in place for the purpose of organization.
The Summer 07 Projects have been coordinated and scheduled. The necessary paperwork and contracts have been signed. All appears to be in order for Johannes Construction, Inc. and Freeman Environmental to complete the work during the summer.
A motion to hire Shannon Ripperda as the basketball cheerleading coach for 6.5% of base pay was approved by Mary Lou Voss, second by Mike Nettemeier. Roll call vote: Aye – Mike Strieker, Rick Taphorn, Dave Wellen, Tina Winkeler, Mary Lou Voss and Mike Nettemeier. Nay – None.
A motion to hire Beth Loddeke as the competition cheerleading coach for 4.5% of base pay was approved on a motion by Mike Nettemeier, second by Rich Taphorn. Roll call vote: Aye – Mike Strieker, Rick Taphorn, Dave Wellen, Tina Winkeler, Mary Lou Voss and Mike Nettemeier. Nay – None.
Also, a motion to hire Kali Carroll as the football cheerleading coach for 2% of base pay was approved by Mike Strieker, second by Mary Lou Voss. Roll call vote: Aye – Mike Strieker, Rick Taphorn, Dave Wellen, Tina Winkeler, Mary Lou Voss, and Mike Nettemeier. Nay – None.
The Board took action to accept the resignation of George Evans as the In-School Suspension teacher on a motion by Rich Taphorn, second by Mary Lou Voss. Roll call vote: Aye – Mike Strieker, Rick Taphorn, Dave Wellen, Tina Winkeler, Mary Lou Voss, and Mike Nettemeier. Nay – None.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:
Central’s Spring Musical, High School Musical, was presented for 5 performances. Each night was sold out with standing room only available. Thanks to Central’s directors, Vickie Voytas and Shauna Lager for organizing and producing the musical.
Central’s National Honor Society induction ceremonies will take place on Tuesday, April 11th. Over 55 juniors will be inducted into this year’s group. Thanks to sponsor, Chris Greenberg, for organizing the event. Central NHS alumni, Alicia Benhoff, will speak to the inductees at the ceremony.
The Belleville News Democrat recently contacted Central to promote a free alcohol and drug awareness program offered by the Belleville News Democrat and Illinois Distributing in order to help educate students about drinking and drug related issues.
