PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

Central Community High School has always encouraged parental involvement in the academic progress and overall development of student success.  It is our philosophy that a valuable educational experience requires a partnership between home and school.  Consistent encouragement and support for the value of education is essential in preparing students to become lifelong learners and productive members of society.  We are taking steps to enhance this philosophy and move in a direction that can make the partnership to benefit students even stronger.

Recently, we have completed a new School Improvement Plan.  We encourage parents and all members of the community to review this plan on this website section.  As part of the new plan, we completed a parental involvement analysis and the conclusions resulted in new strategies for C.C.H.S. to focus more on the inclusion of parents and community in the goals and direction of the school.  A panel of parents and C.C.H.S. staff members reviewed our policies and programs in an effort to generate ideas for improvement in this area.  The belief is that by working together, the parents and the school can create an environment for improved student achievement.

During the analysis, we found that the level of parental support for Central is very strong and a tremendous asset.  Student character, respect, and civility are traits that attest to this point.  There is a strong sense of pride in the school and high level of school spirit in place within the school and community.  We believe the school in general provides leadership for student performance and the members of our staff communicate effectively with parents.  We also found that parents would like to see more proactive communication and even greater efforts in support of students.  The new S.I.P. establishes a goal to collaborate with parents by facilitating more opportunities for involvement in decision making and parental support programs.  We currently involve parents by general communication methods but more direct participation by parents should be encouraged and strategies to create more avenues for the community to participate in the school and specific academic oriented programs will be developed.

Over the next few months, parents will be notified of our efforts at increasing parental involvement efforts.  As an initial step, we hope to put a School Community Council in place that will allow for more discourse between parents and the school.  We certainly encourage anyone interested in participating in this effort to contact us at the school.  After the establishment of a council, we would like to develop a series of programs and activities aimed at topics which can assist parents in establishing methods at home that help students succeed.  These programs might range from specific themes and interactions to general informational nights designed to enhance the partnership between school and home.

We are excited about these efforts and look forward to working with parents in the development of activities and programs that can involve parents and community members as an effort to promote higher levels of success for our students.  The goal of these programs will be to develop what all of us want … better student achievement.  If you have any questions regarding this topic, please do not hesitate to contact us at 618-526-4578.
