Response To
Intervention (RTI)
Reading & Math Component
Central’s
RTI plan provides for the identification of students with weaknesses in reading
and mathematics skills and ensures that each of these students receives
additional instruction in order to be successful. The plan includes all incoming Freshmen
through Juniors. Currently, the plan
identifies students based on attendance, classroom grade, teacher
recommendations, and results of their Explore and Plan testing. Once the students are identified, they are
given additional individual instruction in reading and math to raise their
achievement. A Three- tiered program is
used within the RTI plan. The majority
of the students at Central High School will fall in Tier 1 in which they will
only receive instruction in the general education classroom. Additional Tiers, 2 & 3, use increasingly
intense levels of instruction to address the deficit area and will be in
addition to the general education instruction.
The plan requires for students to be retested several times throughout
the year to check for progress. This
model allows for the identified students to move back to the lower leveled
tiers based on their success. The computer
program, Auto Skills, is utilized as a part of the RTI along with assistance
from the tutor. The documentation from
the software and tutor will give the necessary information to the RTI team as
to whether the student needs further assistance or can return to a lower
leveled tier. The RTI plan will assist
Central High School in raising our reading and mathematics achievement.
Behavior Component
In addition to reading and math skills,
Central will incorporate a behavior component to the RTI program starting in
August 2011. Students at Central will be
familiar with the Code of Ethics that are listed in the handbook. The Code of Ethics is listed to assist
Central students in building and maintaining our positive school climate. The Code of Ethics consists of eight positive
behaviors that all students at Central are expected to demonstrate. The Code of Ethics will be used to identify
students who struggle with interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, and/or
conflict resolution. To ensure a
positive school climate, behavior interventions and supports will be provided
for identified students. Again, a three-
tiered program will be used. Tiers 2
& 3 will provided increased levels of behavior supports to address any
deficit areas. Progress monitoring will
be used to determine in the student is making progress in each tier. The documentation will be used by the RTI
team to determine whether the student needs further assistance or can return to
the lower tier.
