December Scholarship

1.  CBAI Foundation for Community Banking-  $1000 a year for up to four years of higher education will be awarded to the author of the best essay about Community Banking submitted by a high school senior. Sponsored by Germantown Trust & Savings Bank. Deadline: December 31, 2011

2.  Greenhouse Scholars- Scholarships up to $5000 for high school seniors who are high-performing, under-resource and have demonstrated true leadership and outstanding community contributions. Students must have an unweighted GPA of 3.5 (4.5) or higher and demonstrate financial need. For more information or to apply go to www.greenhousescholars.org   Deadline: January 20, 2012

3.  The Aviston Sons of American Legion 2012 Black Tie and Talent Show will be held on Saturday, January 14th. This formal event is a talent and glamour contest that will give away over $8000 in scholarships to college bound students. Students interested can tryout at the Aviston Legion at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 23rd. A three minute speech on a popular topic and talent demonstration are required. 4.  Elks Scholarships- Seniors who have parents or grandparents who are members of the Elks club. For more information: www.elks.org/enf/scholars  or see Ms. Lohman for an application. Deadline: February 1, 2012

5.  KFC Scholars Program- Applicants must be current seniors with a 2.75/4.00 GPA planning on pursuing their bachelor’s degree within Illinois. Apply online at www.kfcscholars.org   Deadline: February 8, 2012

6.  Illinois Society of Professional Engineers Scholarships-

Several scholarships ($1500) – Applicants need to be students planning on majoring in an engineering program at an Illinois or Missouri university/college or a college that is ABET- accredited. 1 scholarship will be given to a student who will be attending an engineering program at SIUE - Essay, academics, need, and letter of recommendation. 2- Scholarships for multiple birth students- academics, essay, recommendations.

8.  Illinois PTA Lillian E. Glover Scholarship- seniors preparing to enter an Education or Education-related degree program. Based on academics, student statement, leadership qualities, school & out-of-school activities. ( Applications are also available at http://www.illinoispta.org/scholarship.html)  Deadline: February 17, 2012

9.  Breese Lions Club Vince Chawgo Memorial  Scholarship-  (1)- $1500 scholarship to a Central senior who is planning on attending a college, university or trade school after graduation. Essay, Academics and letter of recommendation. Deadline: February 28, 2012

10.              Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver to U of I: There is a tuition waiver available for children of Veterans living in Illinois. The waiver may be used for any University of Illinois campus. Up to six waivers per Illinois county are awarded each year, one for each of the following conflicts: World War II, Korean Conflict, Vietnam Conflict, Southwest Asia Conflict, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.   Applications will be available beginning December 1, 2011. Students need to apply before March 1, 2012. 11.              Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation Scholarship- -

a.    Illinois AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Memorial Scholarships- ($500) scholarships for IL high school seniors who child or grandchild of a Veteran of the US who served after 9/15/1940 and was honorably Discharged or currently active. Deadline:  March 1, 2012

b.   Illinois AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Worchid Scholarships- ($500) scholarships for IL high school seniors who are a child of a deceased father or mother who was a Veteran of the US who served after 9/15/1940 and was Honorably Discharged. They need not be killed in action. Deadline: March 1, 2012

c.    Service Foundation Scholarship- ($1000) Senior, based on academics, need. Deadline: March 1, 2012

d.   Trade School Scholarship- ($1000) Senior who has been accepted to a pre-approved trade school program. Based on academics and need. Deadline:  March 1, 2012

e.    Junior ROTC Scholarship- ($1000) Senior participating in Junior ROTC program. Deadline:  March 1, 2012

f.      Sad Sacks Nursing Scholarship- Senior who has been accepted into a pre-approved nursing program. Based on academics and need. Deadline: March 1, 2012

 

12.              Illinois Odd Fellow-Rebekah Scholarship Award- Based on need, academics, and letters of recommendation. Available at www.ioof-il.org under programs/state projects, or Ms. Lohman. Deadline March 1, 2012

 

13.              US Bank Internet Scholarship Program- 40 ($1000) scholarships nationwide-apply online at:  usbank.com/scholarship.   Students must know what college they plan on attending next year. October- March 2012

 

14.              Thomas E. Moore Illinois Electric Cooperatives Scholarships

a.      (4) $1250 scholarship - must be son or daughter of electric cooperative member who is planning on attending a 4-year college, university or vocational/trade school– based on academics, need, essay.  Deadline- December 31, 2011

b.      Earl W. Struck Memorial Scholarship- must be a son or daughter of an electric cooperative employee or director- based academics, need, essay- Deadline: December 31, 2011

c.       (2) $1250 scholarships- must be son or daughter of electric cooperative member who is planning on enrolling full-time at a two-year Illinois community college-based academics, need, and essay. Deadline- December 31st

d.      Lavern and Nola McEntire Lineworker’s Scholarship ($1250)- a relative of an Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives employee or a veteran interested in attending lineworker’s school by the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperation with Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL. Deadline: April 30, 2012
