Throughout the school year, we have noticed several places where the surface of the front entrance concrete is pitting and becoming loose. The problem continues to get worse and Litteken Construction has been contacted about the issue. Nathan Vandeloo, from Litteken, said that the concrete was unacceptable and he was in the process of contacting the supplier.
The annual Tri-County Institute was held virtually on Friday, February 18th. It is a cooperative program scheduled by the Regional Office of Education and funded by the Kaskaskia Special Education District. As always, it offers many great programs and professional development opportunities for our teachers. Our teachers were required to attend at least five sessions on that day.
Dr. Foutch informed the BOE of some tough health circumstances that have fallen on a couple of our staff members at Central.
As you all know, Central began the implantation of our COVID-19 Layered Mitigation on Monday, February 7th. We have had an overwhelmingly positive response to our plan and people have expressed their appreciation for our ability to use common sense in our decision-making. The appellate court has not issued their ruling in regards to the mask mandate so everything could change by Tuesday night. Dr. Foutch is of the belief that as we enter the 2 year mark of the pandemic, our district is prepared to move away from broad, blunt tools and use precision when implementing our mitigations. The public conversation surrounding masks in schools often misses the middle ground. It can sometimes seem to be a debate between doing everything to slow the spread of COVID and doing nothing. This is a false dichotomy. There has to be a balance and our Layered Mitigation plan does an effective job at striking that balance in a way that our students, parents, and community can understand and support. A motion to approve the implementation of our Layered Mitigation Plan for the remainder of the 21-22 school year was made by Amy, second by Tonya. Roll call vote: Aye –Mike Nettemeier, Kori Voss, Mary Lou Voss, Amy Kruse, Tanya Kampwerth, Tim Richter, Jeff Kampwerth. Nay – None
A motion to employ Chris Gass as the Band Instructor for FY22-23 pending all necessary requirements are met was made by Jeff, second by Kori. Roll call vote: Aye –Mike Nettemeier, Kori Voss, Mary Lou Voss, Amy Kruse, Tanya Kampwerth, Tim Richter, Jeff Kampwerth. Nay – None
We have needed a new dust collector for our wood shop for the last several years. The current dust collector was installed when the building was built and it does not function effectively. Mr. Ellis stated that the efficiency of all of his construction trades classes could be greatly improved with a new dust collector. Unfortunately, like the price of many other products in America, the cost of this device has gone up significantly over the last few years. Sudholt Sheet Metal submitted an estimate for replacement and the cost would be approximately $39,000. Since this amount is in excess of $25,000, we would need to advertise the project for public bid. The goal is to get the dust collector installed this summer (with the rest of the west wing remodel). A motion to approve Dr. Foutch to solicit bids for a dust collector was made by Mary Lou, second by Amy. Roll call vote: Aye –Mike Nettemeier, Kori Voss, Mary Lou Voss, Amy Kruse, Tanya Kampwerth, Tim Richter, Jeff Kampwerth. Nay – None
A motion to employ Darin Blaser as a volunteer assistant football coach pending all necessary requirements are met was made by Tim, second by Tonya. Roll call vote: Aye –Mike Nettemeier, Kori Voss, Mary Lou Voss, Amy Kruse, Tanya Kampwerth, Tim Richter, Jeff Kampwerth. Nay – None
