Dr. Ketchum recognized senior Brady Moore as the March Student Spotlight.  Over the past four years, Brady has been an honor roll student while being involved in the Leadership Committee, FCA, and our Cougar Pit Crew.  Further, he has participated in basketball all 4 years and spent a year playing baseball as well.  He has also earned a place on the 2A IBCA All-State 1st Team, 2A Chicagoland Prep Hoops 1st Team, and 2A AP All-State Honorable Mention team.  With regards to future plans, Brady will be attending Rend Lake Community College on a basketball scholarship and then plans to transfer to a 4-year university to be determined.  He is hopeful to continue playing basketball at that 4-year university and looks forward to majoring in Communications.  With that degree, he hopes to pursue a career in sports journalism or broadcasting.

The Common Grounds Coffeehouse will open at Central in August 2022.  We will have a 30-seat café where hot coffee, ice coffee, smoothies, lemonade, and tea will be served.  We will also have some pastries.  Common Grounds will be open from 7:15 to 8:15 each school day and for special events.  The coffeehouse will "employ" people with disabilities, mainly FLS students.  Eventually, we hope to "hire" non-disabled peers to work as managers.  All "employees" will be non-paid volunteers to start.  Depending on the success of the business, we may eventually pay employees.  The focus of the coffeehouse is to teach students job skills, specifically working with customers.  There are numerous other job skills that students will utilize including reading work schedules, money skills, time on task, fulfilling an order, following a recipe, shopping, etc...The FLS class is partnering with the CTE department in this joint effort.  The accounting classes will be balancing the books of the business.  The entrepreneur and marketing classes will be promoting the business through multimedia sources and analyzing sales reports.  The coding classes will develop an app for online ordering.  The foods classes are currently developing recipes and recommendations for pasties and breakfast foods.  Approximately 35% of the students at Central will be directly involved with the operations of the coffeehouse. The project has been 100% grant-funded. We have had 7 donors; Jim's Formal Wear & The Davis Family Foundation, IEA/NEA, Breese Knights of Columbus, Breese Lions Club, Clinton County Electric/Touchstone Energy, Breese Chamber of Commerce, and Breese Optimist Club.  In total, the FLS Class raised $20,000!
