Dr. Ketchum recognized senior Brock Heimann and junior Lauren Wolter as the April Students Spotlight. Over the past four years, Brock has been heavily involved in FFA, along with upholding a high standard for himself across all classes. He is currently on both the Section and Chapter FFA officer team. Specifically, he is the Section Vice President and Chapter President. He just recently competed at State Record Book - which covered equine placement. The record book detailed him working on a horse farm raising mustangs. Brock also has a record book over dairy placement that details him working on various dairy farms, and doing everything from fieldwork to birthing calves. Upon graduation, Brock will attend Kaskaskia College and pursue a degree in Agricultural Business with a minor in Commodities Trading. After KC, he plans to attend a 4-year university and finish up his Bachelor's degree. Over the past three years, Lauren has been involved in Journalism Club, Spanish Club, and Service Club, she was a Cougar Academy Emcee, a band section leader, Vice President for our Chapter FFA and Historian for Section 22 FFA. She will be inducted into the NHS on Wednesday evening and next year, she will be taking part in the Clinton County CEO program. Outside of school, Lauren serves on the Illinois Junior Beef Association Board of Directors, Illinois Junior Angus Association Board of Directors, State 4-H Livestock Ambassador Team, a reporter for Clinton County 4-H Federation, and a member of the Aviston 4-H Aces. Recently, Lauren retired from the State 4-H Skillathon Team where she and her teammates competed at the National 4-H Skillathon contest and became the reserve national champions. Lauren’s family runs Windy Hill Meadows, a purebred Angus operation where they raise performance beef cattle and run a freezer beef business. Lauren’s future plans include attending a 4-year university to obtain her bachelor's in either Animal Science or Ag-Business (or both) with a minor in Spanish, before potentially getting a master's degree or even a Ph.D. During college, she would like to become a member of both a meat and wool judging team. Although her list of schools to visit is long, she notes a shortlist of Texas Tech University, Iowa State University, University of Illinois, and Texas A&M University.
