The Illinois School Code requires that we hold an annual review of our Crisis Management Plan and conduct safety drills with local law enforcement and emergency units.  The Crisis Management Team will meet on Wednesday, September 21st to conduct a debrief of our recent emergency drills.    (Mrs. Voss serves as the Board of Education representative on this team.)  As a heads up about our safety protocols, Central High School takes a layered threat mitigation approach to prevention, safety and security. Those layers are: connection, support and prevention; physical safety measures and daily procedures; community partners; and emergency procedures and readiness.

As part of Illinois School Code, we are required to present an itemized salary compensation report for all certified employees.  This must be presented at a Board of Education meeting prior to October 1st each year.  It also requires a posting of this report and all collective bargaining agreements on school district websites.  We have posted the information to our website in order to be in compliance.

We have been having trouble with our football scoreboard for the last three years.  There are multiple parts of the board that malfunction during every home game, and it is far past time for the board to be replaced.  On Tuesday, Sept. 13th, Dr. Foutch met with representatives from NEVCO to discuss our options for replacement.  Their sales team is going to put together a proposal with “good, better, and best” options for us to explore at our October board meeting.

The FY 23 Budget (preliminary) was presented last month and has been on public display for the past thirty days.  Mrs. Boeschen will review the budget during the meeting.  The final budget requires approval from the Board of Education this month. A motion to approve the FY23 Budget as presented was made by Tim, second by Amy.  Roll call vote: Aye –Mike Nettemeier, Mary Lou Voss, Kori Voss, Amy Kruse, Tanya Kampwerth, Jeff Kampwerth, Tim Richter.  Nay – None

A motion to adopt the FY23 Board Goals as presented was made by Mary Lou, second by Kori.  Roll call vote: Aye –Mike Nettemeier, Mary Lou Voss, Kori Voss, Amy Kruse, Tanya Kampwerth, Jeff Kampwerth, Tim Richter.  Nay – None

A Building Committee meeting for this school year was set for Oct. 5th at 6PM.

The main power panel at Central was installed approximately 50 years ago.  Since that time, we have added a considerable amount of buildings to our campus, and it is our plan to continue this expansion with the addition of our new field house.  When speaking with FGM’s electrical engineer, he stated that we would not be able to add any additional buildings to our current power panel and it would have to be replaced.  He also stated that it probably needed to be replaced anyway due to its age.  He mentioned that if the power panel were to go out (at any time), it would essentially shut our school down for up to two months.  Bottom line, this is an issue that needs to be fixed.  A motion to approve a Health/Life Safety Amendment to replace the main power panel was made by Kori, second by Tanya.  Roll call vote: Aye –Mike Nettemeier, Mary Lou Voss, Kori Voss, Amy Kruse, Tanya Kampwerth, Jeff Kampwerth, Tim Richter.  Nay – None

A motion to approve the School Maintenance Grant for $50,000 was made by Jeff, second by Mary Lou.  Roll call vote: Aye –Mike Nettemeier, Mary Lou Voss, Kori Voss, Amy Kruse, Tanya Kampwerth, Jeff Kampwerth, Tim Richter.  Nay – None

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:

“Project Lead the Way” with Stacey Boruff is off and running. Our students had the opportunity to walk through and investigate a “fake” crime scene. Students analyzed the data, worked to determine and mark evidence related to the crime, and then wrote a report of their findings.

Mr. Freeze talked about College Informational Nights for 2022-2023. Ms. Lohman, Mrs. Benhoff and Mr. Freeze are currently working to update the presentation for our junior parents. This presentation will provide our parents with all the information they need to successfully get through this process. We will present this information in October along parent teacher conferences, but also email it out for those parents who are unable to attend.

Mrs. Benhoff and Mrs. Weh, with the help and guidance of the Special Olympics, have created an Esports team here at Central. Esports is a video gaming competition featuring Rocket League and Mario Kart Deluxe.  This is a unified competition, which means regular education students will be paired with special education students providing critical thinking and interpersonal skills that are essential for life success.

Huge kudos to Mrs. Weh, her staff, and especially her students for creating this awesome new venue/experience for our students with Common Grounds!  The coffee house is definitely something we can all be proud of, but the essential life learning skills our FLS students are being introduced to every day is what it’s all about. We have had zero issues with the drinks going to class!

The guidance office (Mrs. Jones and Ms. Lohman) have begun their individual meetings with freshman and senior students.  The freshman meeting is used to determine their four year plan

and make sure they understand what coursework is needed.  The senior meeting is used to ensure all students are set with their future plans and no one leaves Central undecided.

College Board National Recognition Award Program - Central had eight students earn this recognition in the category of NRSTA (National Rural and Small Town Award)…Haley Huelsmann, John Koerkenmeier, Joseph Cirrincione, Lauren Jeffries, Olivia Clark (NHRA), Shelby Peters, Sophia Bretz and Sydney Klemish.

Cougar Academy update - as part of the academy all freshman students are assigned a mentor and meet once throughout the early fall.  These group mentoring sessions are occurring right now and creating some great relationships amongst the kids.  A big thanks Mara Koerkenmeier!

The board adjourned the meeting on a motion by Voss, second by Amy at 8:02PM. Roll call vote: Aye –Mike Nettemeier, Mary Lou Voss, Kori Voss, Amy Kruse, Tanya Kampwerth, Jeff Kampwerth, Tim Richter.  Nay – None
