The Maintenance staff should be commended for their work this summer in preparing our facility for the upcoming year.  They truly went “above and beyond” as they were asked to complete multiple projects this summer on top of their normal summer maintenance work. The entire staff did a great job in preparing everything (both inside and outside) and completing the cleaning, waxing, painting, preparing, moving tables and chairs, installing the lockers in the locker rooms, building the platform in the new film/classroom, completing the landscaping around the field house, running all the wiring for the new camera system, installing cabinets in the teachers’ lounge and remodeled ag room, building the sink cabinets for the art room, and many other time intensive tasks too numerous to mention.  Clay Sczceblewski, Mike Kuper, Dave Ratermann, and Wayne Deiters, along with our student workers Mason Shubert, Andrew Jansen, and Robert Hofer deserve to be commended for their efforts.  We are extremely lucky to have these people helping to make our school a better place for kids.

Our in-person and online registration processes last week worked very well in getting schedules out and completing schedule changes for students. Thank you to Jamie Hewlett for taking the time to work the Welcome Desk at our registration.  This worked out extremely well as she was able to explain to parents all of the details in regards to the required health paperwork to start school. Currently, we are emphasizing the completion of physicals for 9th graders, and the completion of the meningococcal vaccine for seniors, prior to the start of school.

As always, this summer has been very busy for our tech staff.  Along with their normal duties, they also installed new teacher computers in every classroom and did substantial work in the field house and the remodeled film/classroom.  Our tech staff was also instrumental in the successful completion of our new security camera system.   Anthony and his team -Carter Niemeyer, Brendan Reynolds, and Zach Peters - have done an excellent job preparing for the new school year, and we are so grateful for the work they have done.

We would also like to send out a HUGE thank you to Jill Varel.  To save costs with all of our projects, we made the decision to order all of the new classroom furniture ourselves (instead of including the purchases as part of the project.)  This resulted in the need to coordinate new desks, chairs, white boards, bulletin boards, book shelves, etc. in the remodeled art room, 2 new classrooms in the “old” weight room, remodeled ag classroom, film/theater room, and teacher’s lounge.  On top of all this she also had to organize the purchase of materials and supplies for our entire school, and help plan and coordinate the RSVP’s for the Hall of Fame dinner.  Oh, she also created all the programs for the Hall of Fame.  Jill is simply the best.  She does her job in such a positive and professional way and Central is blessed to have her.

A motion to approve pay application #8 to Millenium Construction for the Fieldhouse for $218,371.85 was made by Tim, second by Kori. Roll call vote: Aye – Mary Lou Voss, Laura Jansen, Kori Voss, Tanya Kampwerth, Jeff Kampwerth, Tim Richter, Amy Kruse.  Nay – None

Dr. Foutch and Becky presented the preliminary budget. A motion to set the Budget Hearing for September 16 at 6:45 was made by Jeff, second by Kory. Roll call vote: Aye – Mary Lou Voss, Laura Jansen, Kori Voss, Tanya Kampwerth, Jeff Kampwerth, Tim Richter, Amy Kruse.  Nay – None

A motion to approve the resignation of Beth Schubel as a classroom instructional aide was made by Laura, second by Jeff.  Roll call vote: Aye – Mary Lou Voss, Laura Jansen, Kori Voss, Tanya Kampwerth, Jeff Kampwerth, Tim Richter, Amy Kruse.  Nay – None

A motion to approve the resignation of Rebecca Thompson as a classroom instructional aide was made by Kori, second by Amy.  Roll call vote: Aye – Mary Lou Voss, Laura Jansen, Kori Voss, Tanya Kampwerth, Jeff Kampwerth, Tim Richter, Amy Kruse.  Nay – None

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:

A BIG thanks to Codi Swires, Chris Solis, Jamie Hewlett and Trisha Lohman for all their work throughout registration. We had 148 out of 153 freshmen come in person to register that day, and 21 new students to the district (only losing 3). Our new enrollment numbers as of 8/14/24 are as follows…

- Senior: 155

- Junior: 169

- Sophomore: 159

- Freshmen: 153

- Total 636

Online registration for our 10th - 12th graders was successful as well, with only a few hiccups with the skyward system.

All athletics parent/player meeting - this meeting was held on August 11th and was very well attended. It’s a night of expectations for all parents and players, a night that everyone understands what it means to be a part of Central Athletics.

On August 12th we welcomed all of our freshmen and their parents to Central and gave them the opportunity to walk their schedules and meet the teachers. It was very well attended with the new cookies probably being the biggest “hit” of the night.

Opening Day Faculty Meeting - this morning was full of motivation, inspiration, laughs, tears, challenges, and reconnecting with the Central Family. The rest of the day was spent in department meetings, preparing classrooms, completing ELN training, and getting ready to roll out the red carpet for our students.

Again this year we will participate in the “Tackle for Hunger” campaign along with Mater Dei leading up to the Milk Bowl. This year is an away game so it won’t be anything like last year. Plus, they are changing the way they tackle the event. The morning pep rally is no longer, but they will come around to both schools and interview students about the canned food drive. They will also come out to practice to get some video and interview a few players. September 3 -6 will be the days we are collecting.
