We have not received official information regarding the Career and Technical and Perkins Tutorial grant commitments or allocations, but every indication from the people at the CTE office has confirmed a likely approval. Just as other years, we are hopeful that we can supplement the RTI tutoring services with money from the Career and Technical Education grant program. When we get word, we will move forward with the CTE “materials and supplies” portion of the program.

The Health Insurance Committee will be meeting in the near future to review the renewal package from our current provider, Cigna. Recently, we received some fairly good news from our insurance broker, Imming Insurance. Imming told us that the increase this year from Cigna Insurance would be 8.5%, but we are also looking at rates from Blue Cross /Blue Shield. (With the massive increases we have seen in multiple surrounding districts, this came as welcome news.) With that, we will again be offering multiple plan options to employees this year. This program will allow each employee to select from 4 different plans (with options that include higher premiums and lower deductible/out of pocket expenses, or lower premiums and higher deductible/out of pocket expenses). These options have worked well over the last three years and enabled our teachers and staff to pick a plan that best fits their individual health insurance needs.

A motion to employ Zander Kapp, Dylan Wesselmann, Kurt Bretz & Brian Vielweber as a volunteer assistant boys soccer coaches pending all necessary requirements are met was made by Julie, second by Tim. Roll call vote: Aye – Mary Lou Voss, Tim Richter, Kori Voss, Laura Jansen, Tanya Kampwerth, Brandon Hogg, Julie Koerkenmeier. Nay – None

Dr. Foutch discussed the potential creation of a “Grow Your Own” Educator program at Central for the 2027-28 school year. Recently, we have been in discussions with Kaskaskia College about offering their Intro. to Education Course and then possibly adding more teacher prep. electives in the future. With the educator shortage, I believe this is a unique opportunity for our district to help prepare our students to fill this void. Not only that, the program would also give our kids access to more college electives that match with their future career plans. We have also met with Dr. Brandy Fuehne and she has expressed interest in not only starting the program at Central, but also teaching the courses. Dr. Fuehne is extremely passionate about helping nurture the next generation of educators, and as a former teacher at Germantown Elementary, she understands the difficulty faced by some of the schools in Clinton County when they are trying to hire outstanding educators to fill vacancies.
