Dr. Foutch announced that NicoleWeh was recently honored by the Illinois State Board of Education as the 2022 Southeastern Region Teacher of the Year.  Nicole is extremely deserving of this award, and she is also now a finalist for the state-wide Teacher of the Year Award.

We are proud to announce that we have contracts signed for all of the advertising spaces on our video boards.  It is our plan to meet with all the advertisers in the very near future to discuss the details of their graphics and promotional night activities.  The total amount of advertising revenue the video boards will generate on an annual basis is $60,000.  With that, we expect for the total cost of the boards, installation, and power supply to be approximately $370,000.  The installation costs were a little higher than originally expected, but the boards will still pay for themselves in a little over 6 years.

The annual Tri-County Institute is being held virtually on Friday, February 17th.  It is a cooperative program scheduled by the Regional Office of Education and funded by the Kaskaskia Special Education District.  As always, it offers many great programs and professional development opportunities for our teachers.  Our teachers are required to attend at least five sessions on that day.

Dr. Foutch has been in negotiations over the last two months with regard to this pay application.  The additional change orders were mostly due to errors in the mechanical design of the project (lack of plumbing lines to teacher stations, vent pipes ran horizontally instead of vertically, etc.).  These mistakes caused change orders equaling $18,054.47.  Dr. Foutch understands that there will be issues that can come up during a construction remodel of the magnitude we completed last summer, but it was his opinion that our district should not be “on the hook” for costs that were incurred due to design flaws.  We pay FGM to ensure those issues are addressed prior to construction, and it should be their responsibility to cover the additional costs.  FGM agreed with that opinion, and they will be reimbursing the district $16,065.31 for their mistakes.  Dr. Foutch felt this was a reasonable amount because the rest of the change orders were due to unforeseen conditions.  In the end, we are very happy with the completed project - although it did come in slightly over budget ($1989.16 to be specific - which is 0.3%).  A motion to approve Pay Application #2 and final to Millenium Contruction in the amount of $98,054. 47 was made by Mary Lou, second by Kori .   Roll call vote: Aye –Mike Nettemeier, Mary Lou Voss, Kori Voss, Amy Kruse, Tanya Kampwerth, Tim Richter, Jeff Kampwerth.  Nay – None

A motion to employ Tyler Malone and Griffin Kruse as a volunteer assistant baseball coaches pending all necessary requirements are met was made by Mary Lou, second by Kori. Roll call vote: Aye –Mike Nettemeier, Mary Lou Voss, Kori Voss, Amy Kruse, Tanya Kampwerth, Tim Richter, Jeff Kampwerth.  Nay – None

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:

Central High School Voter Registration day was held on Tuesday, February 7th. A BIG thanks goes out to Kurt Peters for arranging this opportunity for our kids. The Clinton County Clerk's office was here during the lunch hours and registered 25 students.

Mrs. Shanafelt and Mrs. Florczyk attended a conference to learn more about “Educators Rising”, which is an exciting opportunity for students who are considering teaching as a career at any level (pre-k through high school).  We had eight interested students attend an orientation meeting to learn more about the teaching career, and how to get a jumpstart on concepts that will help them understand what teaching is really all about.  Thanks Mrs. Shanafelt and Mrs. Florczyk for helping to make Central better!

The Central Academic Challenge Team placed 1st at the Regional competition held at Nashville High School

Our Shadow a Cougar Program has been a huge success thus far with 74 students on the schedule. Some of those have already been here, while others are scheduled later in the month. Due to high interest we have extended the program through March 8.

On Saturday February 11th fourteen CHS cougars participated in the Illinois Regional Science Olympiad.  This dynamic group of science enthusiasts placed 5th over all and brought home 25 individual medals by placing 1st in Rocks and Minerals, Bridge, and Flight, 2nd in Chemistry Lab, Experimental Design, and Remote Sensing, 3rd in Disease Detectives, and Forensics, and 4th in Anatomy and Physiology, Dynamic Planet, Forestry, and Write it Do it.

The board adjourned the meeting on a motion by Jeff, second by Amy at 7:33PM. Roll call vote: Aye –Mike Nettemeier, Mary Lou Voss, Kori Voss, Amy Kruse, Tanya Kampwerth, Jeff Kampwerth, Tim Richter.  Nay – None
